The European Union plays a major role in global development cooperation, but where does support end and influence begin? While EU policies aim to promote sustainable growth and equality worldwide, they also raise important questions about power dynamics, local agency, and long-term impact. Does EU aid truly empower local communities, or does it risk fostering dependency?
Have you ever wondered how the EU balances its role as a global development actor? And would you like to learn more about the intersection of gender, power, and international aid policies?
We have the perfect event for you! On April 3rd, UNYA Ghent invites Dr. Petra Debusscher to explore these pressing issues. As a researcher at the Ghent Institute for International and European Studies and an expert on gender in EU external policies, she will examine how the EU navigates development cooperation and its broader implications.
Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to engage with Dr. Debusscher during an interactive Q&A session.
When? April 3rd 2025, 7:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M.
Where? Gruut, Dodoensdreef 1, 9000 Ghent
PS: This event is free for everyone
