Detailpage European Law Students' Association Gent

European Law Student's Association, abbreviated ELSA, is an international, independent, non-political, non-profit organisation, for and by students. We are made up of students and graduates who are interested in professional and personal development alongside their university studies. ELSA Ghent wants to offer students and graduates from Ghent the ideal platform for this. We also try to form a bridge between students and the legal labour market by organising various events with partners. This both in Ghent and within Europe. ELSA's history dates back to 1981, when five law students from Austria, Hungary, Poland and West Germany decided to found ELSA. Today, ELSA is the world's largest network of law students. We operate in 44 countries, 375 law faculties and have more than 60 000 members across Europe including students and young lawyers. In Belgium, there are 9 local groups, of which ELSA Ghent is the youngest. This makes it the largest lawyers' association in the world. Its vision of cooperation as an engine of progress remains even after the fall of the wall in Berlin. ELSA Ghent organises various academic activities to develop skills that add value in the labour market. Due to ELSA's large network, internships abroad are also possible, in order to gain more (international) experience there as well.
