An attack to any University Students somewhere, is an attack to all University students everywhere. The students community of Ghent University were shocked to learn of the horrific news on Thursday 2nd April 2015 on the attack on Garissa University College students in Kenya killing 147 students and 79 being wounded. This is an outrageous incident which affects all students in the world and appalled exchange and international students. In the contemporary global world, students, researchers and lecturers mobility between countries and universities is a guarantee for future development of all regions and people.

ISAG believes that, this attack is not just aimed at people of a certain nation, political or religious view. ISAG sees this, as an attack against all of us, students, united by a passion to learn and a desire to change our countries and global society for the best. We see this attack as a crime against all academics, who devoted their lives to the future well-being of the world. We hope that this incident will not stop exchange students from conducting research stays in Kenya, but would rather encourage world specialists and students to contribute to the peaceful future of the region.

This is why, ISAG in colloboration with the International Relation Office Ughent is commemorating the lives and achievements of our colleagues from Kenya. We regret so much that we could not do more for their families. We suggest to gather to talk about this tragedy and feel supported by each other in this difficult experience. We think that it would be a good symbolic action to create a graduation cap from candles to remind the world about the graduation, which students who died during this horrible attack will never have.
